Charli XCX team refutes accusation she recorded elements of Sky Ferreira tracks

Charli XCX’s team has spoken out following claims that tracks from her Wuthering Heights soundtrack borrowed elements from Sky Ferreira’s unreleased demos.

The conversation began when Ferreira replied to a social media post suggesting that Charli’s “Chains of Love” resembled her 2018 demo Ancient Idols, while “Altars” echoed a 2015 demo. Ferreira dismissed the speculation, saying: “Your industry insider is wrong. Close but wrong.” She later added that she had proof of her work with dates attached, but didn’t see value in pursuing the matter further.

In a statement to Billboard, Charli’s representatives emphasized her commitment to fair crediting: “Charli always shares credits fairly and appropriately, and values her collaborators tremendously.” They explained that before the album’s release, a thorough review process was carried out involving managers, lawyers, producers, and artists. This included checking archival demos and confirming songwriting splits in writing.

Ferreira is officially credited as a featured artist, co‑writer, and vocal producer on “Eyes of the World”, one of the tracks from Charli’s Wuthering Heights album, which dropped in February alongside Emerald Fennell’s film adaptation.

The two artists have a history of collaboration, having previously teamed up on the 2019 single “Cross You Out.” Charli has also been vocal in her support of Ferreira’s artistry over the years, making this latest exchange a notable moment in their ongoing creative relationship.
