Yungblud Brings The Molotovs on Tour After Chance Camden Meeting
Yungblud’s decision to invite The Molotovs on his upcoming tour wasn’t the result of a label deal or industry networking—it all started with a spontaneous encounter at a Camden pub.
The rising rock duo, made up of siblings Issey (19) and Mathew Cartlidge (17), first met Yungblud at The Hawley Arms, a legendary Camden bar known for its music scene. Speaking to ContactMusic.com, Yungblud recalled:
“We met in the pub—his favourite pub is The Hawley Arms in Camden. I’ve got a couple of mates that work there.”
After hearing Yungblud might drop by, Mathew headed over. What followed was a surreal moment:
“I went up to the bar to get a drink, and Yungblud was there. He just looked at me and said, ‘I love your band.’”
That unexpected compliment quickly turned into an invitation. Yungblud asked Mathew to join him for a photo and later extended the offer for The Molotovs to join his sold-out arena tour.
The Molotovs Stay Focused on the Music
Despite the rock-and-roll setting of their first meeting, The Molotovs are determined to keep their focus sharp while opening for Yungblud.
Mathew explained:
“We take it pretty seriously. If you go on stage hungover every night, you’re not gonna give a good gig.”
Issey added:
“We don’t buy into the whole rock and roll myth. If you’re drunk all the time, you can’t rehearse or create music. That lifestyle just doesn’t work.”
Rising Stars With Big Credentials
The Molotovs are no strangers to the stage. They’ve already opened for legendary acts including The Libertines, Sex Pistols, Blondie, Iggy Pop, and The Damned. Their debut album, Wasted on Youth, even reached number three in the UK charts, competing against Lily Allen.
Now, they’re gearing up to support Yungblud alongside The Warning, with the tour kicking off on April 11 in Sheffield. Later this year, The Molotovs will headline their own tour, Welcome To Urbia, which has already added extra dates due to high demand.
